First post of 2012

HELLO EVERYBODY!!

:)

Finally, a blog post after centuries. I'm getting rusty in this. LOL

Due to overwhelming demands (ahem, a little exaggeration won't hurt) here's something for you guys!

First of all, I still can't believe it's 2012. Don't you think time passes reallllyyyy quick nowadays?

Well, I can say that my life is really great here. :) So far, I'm settling in quite well in this quaint town. :) I can't believe that 3 months had flew past this quickly. It seems like yesterday, the night before leaving to UK, I was rolling around in my bed, filled with a mixture of anxiety and anticipation.

If you read my past posts, I guess you can sense that I was pretty nervous. A completely different new life here without my family and my best friends here. Worse still, I am so horrible in directions, I get nervous just thinking about how I have to maneuver my way around the city, when I can't even remember my way back home in Malaysia. And my cooking skills do not even be deserved to be mentioned here. LOL

However, I'm so so grateful that I found really great friends here and they make my life so much livelier and fun. :)

My sense of direction is still horrible but then I finally learn to make use of google map which is a total life savior! *bows down to master* How on earth I survived without this? beats me.

Something hilarious happened! My friends came from London for a visit and I wanted to bring them to a Chinese restaurant nearby the train station. So, I arrived there early to find the place cause I forgot where it was actually and good thing I did because I got lost for almost an hour. LOL. Even with the map, I couldn't find the place -.- Seriously, for the first time I doubted the power of google map and finally resorted to asking the locals instead who pointed me to the right direction.

So, when they finally arrived, I was leading the way rather confidently since I "practiced" earlier but..

we got lost. LOL

I was like SERIOUSLY?! I swear I followed the right path but it led us to a highway. Haih, I was feeling pretty dumb since I was literally there minutes ago. But thank god we finally found the place using the good old google map. (guess it's due to my blurness in the first place then)

Guess I will never ever be good in directions.

Moving on, I realized learning how to cook is actually not too bad. Come to think of it, I really do enjoy cooking now. :) I only burnt my food once (stupid potatoes -.-) so I guess that's not too bad. I boiled ABC soup by myself the other day, and it tasted pretty okay! *bragging* and  somewhat replicated my mom's soy sauce chicken. :) Still, my mom's cooking is still the best :) Although my sister and I like to give what we call "constructive criticisms." LOL

It's sooo funny, when I first came here, I was so clueless about cooking. The only thing that I can really do well is to fry an egg. In fact, I fry eggs way too often till my flatmate commented "not eggs again, pikee" LOL

Speaking about my flatmates, they are really friendly people and are super nice to me. :)  One thing that's awkward is I find it hard to try to tone down my accent since they are locals and might not understand me. Not using the word "lah" is surprisingly very hard. :O

But, I'll try my best to fit in well with them! :D

And of course, how can I forget my awesome medic friends? ;)

Med School is awesome if you have a group of nice friends to hang out with :)

So far, I'm enjoying my studies. :) I know it's a bit too early to say that cause the amount of stress and examinations are gonna escalate this year but pursuing this course really widens my perspective about a lot of things, really. There're so many issues happening right now that I'm unaware of,  like stigma that certain patients experience due to their illness and how truly complex the human body is. I have no idea that SO many things are going on in our bodies and I can't help but to be slightly impressed. :) Good job! *pats self * People!! Stop taking your bodies for granted, ok LOL. Eat more apples.

Well, not everything is great here. For instance, I couldn't celebrate events with my family, like birthdays, Christmas and New Year. I was slightly bummed that I couldn't celebrate my 19th birthday with my family and for the first time, I felt a bit homesick. But thank god for my friends who celebrated with me :')

The simply AMAZING chocolate cake Nina and Alex baked. :) THANK YOU SO MUCH! <3

Us reenacting the roles we depicted during our random game of charades. HAHA the game was hilarious!!

The most amazing poster I ever seen in my life!! Thanks so much Yoanne, I was seriously touched you took so much time to do this for me. HUGS!

Thanks Jennifer for this delicious chocolate! Sad to say I finished it all up already D: but at least I immortalized it in this picture. hahaha

Thanks Katie for the cute cupcake and the rest for the lovely scrapbook! :)

And thanks Nina for this post birthday desert celebration!! HAHA

Sinfully yummy! *drooling

Thanks to all the midnight calls and the facebook wishes! You guys know who you are. And also thanks Shu Whey, for the sms all the way from Malaysia! I was in the middle of class and I almost happily squealed out loud hahaha!

Of course, I do miss my family a lot. It's queer not being able to see them whenever I want to. The time difference made it all worse and I could only skype with them during odd hours or sometimes, could only say a quick hi before dashing off to class. I'm sorry too, for missing my sister's 20th birthday and for the next five birthdays while I'm here. Moreover, I couldn't celebrate Chinese New Year or make tang yuans with my mom for the next few years too. Sigh, well I guess it's inevitable and I gotta learn to embrace this.

OH, happy birthday, Yen Yi! I'm sorry too I can't celebrate your birthday with you. I'll try my very best to come back next year to celebrate your 21st birthday! :) Hope you had a good time without me! hahaha

And tea party, I sorely miss you guys too and all our endless outings and gossip sessions. Hope you guys are doing well back home.

Well, if you guys are reading this, I love you all a lot! :)

Haha, I had a great time in December, celebrating the holidays with my aunt who flew all the way to see me. :) Thank you so much for giving me such a great holiday in Paris and London!

My most awesome aunt! <3

Eiffel Tower! We took like 100 pictures with this tower. LOL

Inside Tower of London.

SO, I guess that's all the highlights of 2011. I'm excited to see what 2012 has to offer for me! Well, except the possible end of the world scenario. LOL I wonder what would happen if it really does come true.

Anyway, let's just look at the bright side and live life to the fullest! They're my new year resolutions this year. Sounds simple but can be quite daunting.

STAY HAPPY everyone!

Till then.
