One of the biggest challenges I faced so far being in UK is cooking.
The only things I really know how to cook well are eggs and instant noodles. Thus, so far, I've been surviving on them, but I'm trying to cut down on instant noodles because I don't wanna be bald. LOL
And I've been getting a lot of comments like but you're a girl, how can you not know how to cook?! What is this, so sexist! What, guys can cook better than girls is it -.-
(well, actually it's true, but let's just move on)
Anyway, ever since my aunt sent me the recipe on how to cook eggs with onions, (LOL don't laugh) that's pretty much what I've been eating these few days.
However, today I tried to cook something new which is.. spinach! HAHA. I actually searched for the methods to cook spinach.(i love you google) And it doesn't seem to difficult. All you need are oil, garlic and spinach.
Then, I rummaged through my fridge and I discovered that my garlic is MISSING!
I SWEAR i bought it from Sainsbury a couple of days ago, but they were gone! And I was panicking like crazy because what if the spinach tastes terrible without garlic?!
So, I ran back to my room and googled again and turns out it's safe to cook spinach without garlic. So, I went back to the kitchen with ease.
After that, I sat down with my bowl of rice with fried egg and spinach, brimming with pride. Just as I was about to dig into my bowl of goodness, my flatmate sat down with his meal. And he cooked the most delicious looking curry chicken with rice and it smells so good. And my rice doesn't seem so appetizing anymore. HAIH. He can even cook chow mein and he's not even Chinese. Not to be racist, but I eat chow mein more than him and I can't even cook it.
And the other day, I was defrosting my chicken using the microwave and my flatmate stopped me and she asked me whether is it the same chicken I was defrosting the other day. I was like yeah, what's wrong? Then she told me that I shouldn't do that because I would get food poisoning.
I was like WHAT? I've been eating like this for a few days already but I'm still fine! *pats stomach with pride wth. why nobody tell me this? I feel so useless. mommy, where are you? D:
Wow, cooking is indeed difficult! I do have a new found respect for my mom for cooking dinner everyday. It's not easy to try to cook different dishes everyday. And to think that I once complained when she cooked her claypot chicken rice too often. In fact, I kind of miss it now.
Haih, I do hope I can pass through this obstacle without getting hospitalized for food poisoning.
Till then.
